The French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD)

Introduction

CIRAD is a public establishment (EPIC) under the joint authority of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Its activities concern the life sciences, social sciences and engineering sciences, applied to agriculture, food, the environment and territorial management. Its work centres on several main topics: food security, climate change, natural resource management, reduction of inequalities and poverty alleviation. CIRAD has more than 20 years of experience in the region on the participatory design and demonstration of agroecological systems (ACTAE, EU EFICAS, AFD PAMPA), the analysis, evaluation and support of innovations (EU FAO CDAIS) as well as on differentiated value chain and quality management models (AFD IG), from which the project built up. CIRAD supported the LICA process of building a political dialogue on agroecology at ASEAN level. CIRAD also has a long experience of collaboration with project partners through facilitating the two partnership research platforms, dP Malica  and dP Asea , which gather most of the local research institutions and academics involved in the project and the dP Grease with which collaborations will also be set up.

Responsible in the ASSET Project

CIRAD is in charge of the scientific coordination of the project and will ensure the coordination of three sub-components, the Flagship Level Action Research jointly with Swisscontact, the Methodological Framework for assessing performances and impacts of innovations and transitions and the Policy Dialogue jointly with FAO.

CIRAD being involved in several DESIRA projects on agroecology in different regions of the world, mechanism will be developed internally to share experiences and disseminate the results on open source. And the ImpresS team will support ToC aspects.
