Introduction

The oldest University in Stuttgart: the University of Hohenheim is unique in its strong specialization. Founded in 1818 after devastating famines, the University of Hohenheim is not only engaged in intensive basic research but has traditionally also been committed to developing innovative solutions for some of society's pressing problems.

Responsible in the ASSET Project

University of Hohenheim and more specifically the Institute of Agricultural Sciences in the Tropics supports the Flagship Level Action Research, contributes to the elaboration of indicators and assessment methods (see Methodological Framework) and is involved in the Capacity Development program by providing trainings to ASSET implementing organizations and ALiSEA members. They have strong skills on the design of innovative agricultural systems, by taking climate change mitigation goals, integrating production into the value chain and analysing the trade-off between level of production and product quality. They have had regional experiences on pig and cattle husbandry, food security and marketing and branding options.
